5083 Aluminum Plate in Tanker
In the logistics and transportation industry, tank trucks, as core vehicles for transporting liquids, powders, and other media, place increasingly stringent demands on the corrosion resistance, strength, and lightweight nature of their materials. 5083 aluminum plate, with its unique performance advantages, has become an ideal choice for tank truck manufacturing.
The applicable tank truck types
5083 aluminum plate in tanker is a rust-resistant Al-Mg-Si alloy with a magnesium content of approximately 4.0%-4.9%. It combines excellent corrosion resistance with moderate strength, making it particularly suitable for tank trucks exposed to various corrosive media. It is primarily used in the following three types of tank trucks:
1. Liquid tank truck
This type of tank truck is the primary application for 5083 aluminum sheet, including chemical liquid tank trucks (transporting hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid dilutions, chemical solvents, etc.), edible oil tank trucks, and drinking water tank trucks. For example, traditional carbon steel tank trucks are susceptible to rust from corrosive media and require frequent anti-corrosion treatment. The corrosion resistance of 5083 aluminum sheet reduces maintenance costs and does not chemically react with edible oil or drinking water, ensuring the purity of the transported media.
2. Powder tank truck
These tankers, such as fly ash tankers and cement tankers, must withstand certain air pressures and material impacts. 5083 aluminum sheet, with a tensile strength of 270-350 MPa and an elongation of 12% or higher, can withstand the impact loads of material loading and unloading. Its lightweight design increases the tanker's payload and reduces fuel consumption.
3. Hazardous Goods tankers
Some hazardous materials (such as low-concentration corrosive hazardous materials and liquefied petroleum gas auxiliary tanks) require extremely high material safety. Heat-treated 5083 aluminum sheet can achieve excellent fatigue resistance, preventing tank cracking caused by vibration during long-term transportation and improving transportation safety.
Common tempers and specifications of 5083 aluminum
Tank truck manufacturing has specific requirements for the condition and specifications of aluminum sheet, which must be selected based on the tank forming process and load requirements:
1. Common tempers
H111: This is the mainstream steel condition for tank truck bodies. It is a semi-hard state that undergoes appropriate cold rolling and stabilization treatments, resulting in excellent stamping and weldability. No secondary heat treatment is required after welding, allowing for direct processing, making it suitable for mass production.
H112: Suitable for tank truck support structures (such as tank supports and guardrails). It offers stable mechanical properties, strong deformation resistance, and can withstand the long-term loads of the tank's own weight and the weight of the medium.
2. Typical Specifications
Thickness: The tank body is commonly 3-10mm thick, with 5-8mm being the most common. Thinner than 5mm can easily deform during transport, while thicker than 10mm increases the tank's weight, affecting its load capacity. The support structure is typically 8-12mm thick.
Width: It can be customized based on the tank truck's diameter, with 1220mm, 1500mm, and 2000mm common. Wide aluminum sheeting reduces the number of welds on the tank body and reduces the risk of leakage.
Length: Typically 2000-6000mm, and can be cut to the desired length to minimize material waste. We also provide marine grade aluminium 5083 for shipbuilding.
The Prospects of Aluminum Tank Trucks
Although the initial purchase cost of aluminum tank trucks is currently 20%-30% higher than that of carbon steel tank trucks, the cost gap is gradually narrowing with the increase in aluminum plate production capacity and large-scale application. In the long run, it will drive the tank truck industry to continue upgrading towards high efficiency, environmental protection and low consumption.
