In the cold chain logistics industry, the performance of refrigerated trucks directly determines the transportation quality of fresh produce, pharmaceuticals, and other supplies. In recent years, 5182 aluminum sheet, with its unique performance advantages, has gradually become the preferred material for refrigerated truck manufacturing, playing an irreplaceable role in several key components.

Application Areas

5182 aluminum alloy belongs to the Al-Mg series of rust-resistant aluminum. The addition of magnesium in its composition gives the material both high strength and good formability, perfectly matching the functional requirements of different parts of refrigerated trucks. It is mainly used in the following core areas:

1. Truck body and side panels

As the "core protective layer" of refrigerated trucks, the truck body and side panels need to simultaneously meet the requirements of lightweight, sealing, and corrosion resistance. 5182 aluminum alloy sheets, with their excellent formability, can be processed into different specifications of truck body structures through processes such as leveling and bending.

It can also achieve customized ultra-wide sheet metal (maximum width up to 2650mm), reducing splicing welds, improving the sealing of the truck body, and thus ensuring a stable constant temperature environment inside the refrigerated truck. Meanwhile, its excellent weather resistance allows it to withstand harsh weather conditions in different regions, preventing the container from being corroded by rain and moisture.

2. Doors and door frames

Refrigerated truck doors are critical components that are frequently opened and closed, requiring extremely high strength and toughness in the materials. 5182 aluminum alloy can be processed into door panels and door frame structures, ensuring the door's load-bearing capacity while reducing energy consumption during opening and closing due to its lightweight characteristics. Its excellent weldability also ensures a tight seal between the door and the container, preventing cold air leakage and further improving refrigeration efficiency.

3. Refrigeration system piping and accessories

The refrigeration system piping of refrigerated trucks comes into direct contact with the refrigerant, requiring strict requirements on the corrosion resistance and thermal conductivity of the materials. 5182 aluminum alloy has strong chemical corrosion resistance, resisting refrigerant corrosion, and also possesses good thermal conductivity, which helps improve the heat exchange efficiency of the refrigeration system, allowing the interior temperature to quickly reach and maintain the set standard.

4. Lightweight auxiliary components

In addition to the core components mentioned above, 5182 aluminum alloy is also used in some support structures and auxiliary components of refrigerated trucks, such as guardrails. By replacing traditional steel, the overall weight of the vehicle can be further reduced while maintaining structural strength, improving transportation economy.

5182 Aluminum alloy tempers

Different applications have different requirements for the mechanical properties of the material. 5182 aluminum alloy, through different heat treatment states, can precisely match the usage needs of various parts of refrigerated trucks. The two most commonly used states are:

1. O-state (Annealed)

5182-O aluminum has excellent flexibility and formability, suitable for parts requiring complex bending and stamping processes, such as the truck body and door panels. The material in this state has strong plasticity, easily adapting to the curved shapes of the refrigerated truck body, while being less prone to cracking during processing, ensuring the machining accuracy and appearance quality of the components.

2. H111 Temper (Work-hardened)

5182-H111 aluminum exhibits a tensile strength exceeding 175 MPa and a yield strength ≥80 MPa, demonstrating significant strength advantages. It is primarily used in load-bearing components such as door frames and supporting structures. This state of material effectively resists vibrations and impacts during transportation, ensuring the stability and safety of the vehicle structure. Furthermore, depending on specific needs, 5182 aluminum alloy is also available in other tempers such as H32 and H24, further expanding its application scenarios.
